Psycho Fest Las Vegas-Friday
August 19-August 22, 2022. Vegas, casinos, and metal!
I'm feeling really lazy today. It's a week since my plane left for Vegas, to attend Psycho Fest. I wanted to do some individual band reviews, so I will try to get that done later. My plane got into Vegas about 10:45am. My buddy took a similar flight, so he arrived about 40 minutes before me, and was waiting at the airport. We caught an Uber and checked into the Trump International Hotel. I was low on cash, so my buddy picked up most of the tab, I just have to chip in some later. He also might let me trade him cds, which would really help me out. It's about 11:50am, we drop off our bags at the hotel, and walk to the event. We were about 1/2 mile away. Hot as hell in Vegas, I grew up here, but have been in the mild pacific NW climate for many years. The heat sucks. I get to Resorts World, a little after noon. Can already see tons of metalheads walking around the casino area. I ask a nice couple, were to pick up the wristbands needed for the 3-day event. I was so excited, I went to the wrong line, and got a wristband for over 21 guests that could use the bar instead of showing id. Went to see the first band and was told you don't have the right wristband...haha...damn. So went back upstairs and got the right one. First band of the day was Early Moods. A young doom band from LA. They were playing at the Dawg House bar. What a surprise! I thought they were going to be a stoner band, but they were pure doom!! Can here Sabbath, Pentagram, Count Raven, and some St. Vitus. One of the guitarists was playing a black SG just like Iommi. So, Friday was off to a great start. Other highlights that day were Emperor, Mayhem, and Nuclear Assault. After Early Moods, MGLA from Poland, was my favorite band of the day. Very hypnotic, and almost ambient, black metal. They played on the Event stage, which was the largest stage of the venue. Most of the bigger bands like Emperor, played here. We made sure to be on time for Nuclear Assault. Their set start at 11:45 pm, at the Ayu day club. Which was an outdoor club with a pool. It is quite a sight to see metalheads trying to get a pit going in the water. Not such a great sight, were the very out of shape dudes strutting around drunk as hell. We met a cool metalhead from Tampa, Mac. Great dude and knew a lot about metal. Props for our Dan Swano, Moontower discussion! One thing I was not prepared for was the humidity, even at midnight. I was covered in sweat. So, after only 20 minutes we headed to the Redtail lounge to see Akhlys. Pretty good black metal from Colorado. But got pretty boring the more I watched. Limped over to see Carpenter Brut at the Rose Ballroom. Dark synthwave from France. Not bad. Ended the night with massive sore and aching feet! Sweet Jesus, walking around for 14 hours was not fun. Left Resorts World about 2am. Made it to the hotel. Used the jacuzzi bathtub, to give my feet a much-needed massage. Passed out. Friday night a wrap.
