Judas Priest Concert Review
Everett, WA March 9, 2022 Angel of the Winds Arena
I have to admit, I was not 100 percent excited for this show. You see, I had last seen Priest about 5 years ago in Tacoma. It was a complete letdown. Rob Halford was not in good form. He was using a cane to walk around. His voice sounded shot. His high register completely gone. My expectations were pretty low. But this was a great concert. Maybe I'm grading on a curve, but they delivered the goods...pun intended. Halford's voice sounded much better. Yes, he cannot hit those high notes, but he modified his approach. Higher notes were replaced, with more of a growl type scream. His mid-range still sounded pretty great to me. He also was much more mobile and did not have the use of a cane this time. It was fantastic to see Richie Faulkner, recovered and in good health. He has been such a boost, to the modern area of this band. Andy Sneap was there, after some controversy of going to a one guitar live band. What blasphemy! They worked well together, and I must say were tight as hell. Tipton and KK in their prime, could not do much better! "You've Got Another Thing comin' " was played heavier than I have heard in the past. "Turbo Lover" has aged well, and I think is a really catchy track. Other highlights were "Invader", and "Victim of Changes". The biggest surprise was them playing "Rocka Rolla". I never expected them to go back to the first album! To be honest, I think they played a few too many commercial tracks. It would have been nice to hear "The Ripper", or "Exciter", but I understand. You have to please the casual music fans in the audience. On a side note. There was an older guy about 60 years of age sitting in front of me. He had a balding head, with just a few whisps of hair combed over. I could not stop thinking about playing blast beats with some drumsticks on his skull..hahaa....I'm talking early Napalm Death style. To my credit, I held back. And I do feel guilty typing this, I apologize for my sick mind! Queensryche opened the night. Playing older material, nothing past "Empire". It was wonderful hearing songs off the first EP. "Warning" was also just kick ass. So glad I got to the show early to catch their set. Well nothing else to add. Just if you get a chance, see Priest if they come to your town. Who knows how much longer they will be around. Sean
